Research answers the age-old question: Should you lift weights before or after cardio?
It’s long been thought that weights come before cardio, but does the order really matter? Turns out it doesn’t, according to recent research at the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland. A group of nearly 200 subjects perform either supervised cardio immediately followed by strength training, or vice versa, 2-3 times per week for 24 weeks. While cardio before weights interfered with strength-training performance after a single training session—researchers found no difference in recovery times between the two groups after the 24-week period. Rather, both groups reaped the same benefits—increased physical prowess and muscle size, at about the same rate.
